Food intolerances - treatment and diagnosis

Food intolerance is a reaction of the body resulting from the consumption of a particular type of food.

A common cause of intolerance is the lack of enzymes responsible for digesting a specific group of products.

The most common food intolerances include lactose intolerance (milk sugar), fructose (fruit sugar), and IgG- dependent intolerance (symptoms often appear several days after eating food).

The cause of food intolerance is the production by the immune system of antibodies that are stored in tissues and gradually lead to their damage.

Symptoms of food intolerances

The most common symptoms of food intolerance include:

  • chronic fatigue, apathy, migraines, impaired concentration, depressed mood, depressive states;
  • overweight and obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension;
  • diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, feeling of overflow in the stomach, heartburn, swelling;

Treatment of food intolerances

The first step in the event of unwanted symptoms is to test for food intolerances. The results will indicate which products should be eliminated from the diet. Tests are carried out in specialized laboratories.

After obtaining the test results, the next step is a visit to a specialist in the field of dietetics, which will help in setting up a balanced diet.
