A crisis intervention specialist is a professional who provides support to individuals or groups experiencing a crisis situation.
Crisis intervention is a short-term, immediate form of psychological support provided to a person who finds themselves in a difficult situation and is unable to cope with it on their own.
These situations may result from:
- risk of suicide,
- accidents and disasters,
- loss and bereavement,
- experiencing crime, domestic violence, or sexual violence (rape),
- family, marital, or relationship crises (infidelity, breakup, divorce),
- one’s own illness or that of a loved one.
Crisis intervention is a form of psychological support focused on a specific problem.
The goal of crisis intervention is to provide professional support aimed at alleviating crisis symptoms, restoring psychological balance, preventing the crisis from becoming chronic, and helping the individual regain the ability to cope independently with the difficult situation.
